Jeff Traver

Jeff Traver is a local. He's from Corvallis, Oregon, and chose Oregon State University because, "It had the best forestry program of any university." As a current student, he appreciates what he describes as, "The potential to do a lot of good this world," that the Renewable Materials program offers.

Jeff is a man who loves the outdoors and tries to take advantage of them as much as possible. Hiking, ATVing and exploring the college forest land are some of his favorite activities outside of school. As much as he enjoys those things now, he wants to be sure he can enjoy them in the future, too. He wants to have a good job and own lots of land so that he can directly share in the responsibility of caring for the land we all enjoy.

To that end he was both surprised and happy to find that the renewable materials program has so many job opportunities, and it's one of the reasons he chose the program. That and the experiences he had with the faculty, especially undergraduate advisor and instructor David Smith, who Jeff says, "Was a great help in laying out plan for my college career."

If a potential student asked for his advice, Jeff says he'd be sure to tell them to check out a lot of majors before deciding and to be sure you can keep up with the class load before make your final decision. Also, take advantage of the renewable materials advisors; they're on standby to help you out with that.
